Birchbox | May Unboxing

Another month another Birchbox! It’s exciting coming home from work to this little parcel sitting on the side, I’m always intrigued to see what’s inside! May’s box is named “For the Dreamers” and they teamed up with Destinology which is a luxury holiday company who gave subscribers the chance to win three luxury holidays in their May boxes! As well as this you also got the chance to pick between pink and lilac for your full sized spectrum wonder sponge!

To find out if you had won one of the luxury holidays all you had to do was scratch off the silver coating with a coin – unfortunately I didn’t win.. Boooooooooooo! *sad face*. But it was so satisfying scratching off the silver coating to reveal the colourful pattern underneath!

What was inside my May box?

Spectrum Collections – Unicorn Tears Wonder Sponge, Full Size | RRP £4.99
The name of this product is pretty self explanatory.. a makeup sponge for cream, mineral or liquid formulas. Remember to dampen the sponge before use! The rounded edge is to blend in your foundation seamlessly and the pointed edge is for those hard to reach areas i.e. around your nose and eye area. I love applying my foundation with a sponge so I’m glad I received this!

Rituals – Tao Wai Wang Mild Exfoliating Body Scrub | RRP £19.50
An exfoliating body scrub filled with ultra fine Chinese bamboo particles and calming white lotus, it helps remove dead skin cells leaving your skin feel smooth and soft. I’m looking forward to giving this a go as I do love a body scrub and it sounds like it’ll be gentle on the skin.

LOC – Shadow Stick in Empress Me, Full Size| RRP £8.99
This was the Birchbox Exclusive this month! Empress Me is a bronze shimmery shade which I really like. I normally only tend to wear neutral shades of browns/nudes when it comes to eye makeup, so this is great! The consistency of the eye shadow is really creamy and just glided on when I done a swatch of it. The formula also seems to be smudge proof as I wiped my finger across the swatch and it didn’t smudge! Amazing!

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Caudalie – Vinosource Moisturising Sorbet | RRP £23.00
The gel cream product hydrates, reduces redness and soothes your skin and what’s even better is that it’s for all skin types. The thing I love most about this product is the colour of the tube!

Philip Kingsley – PK Prep Polishing Balm | RRP £18.50
I must admit I’m not one for using different kinds of hair care treatments, I use my John Freida blonde shampoo and apply my Garnier oil for heat protection and that’s it. But I thought this product might come in handy on days when my hair is looking a little frizzy and dry! All you do is apply the balm through the mid lengths and ends of damp or dry hair! The balm helps smooth condition and tame your hair and it also contains pro-vitamins that add shine and gloss to your hair! Who doesn’t love having shiny looking hair?!

Yu-Be Moisturising Skin Cream | RRP £14.75
I was a bit unsure of this product when I pulled it out the drawstring bag, I had no idea what it was or what it did! Upon reading I found out it’s a head-to-toe hydrating skin cream for stubborn dryness or flaky skin. It can be used for chapped lips too! I’m quite lucky as I don’t suffer with dry skin or chapped lips at at all, so I doubt I’ll even use this product.

In all honesty I’m pretty meh with this months Birchbox, out of the 6 products I received the only thing I was really happy with was the Wonder Sponge. This is only my second box I’ve received but it’s made me think if it’s worth keeping the subscription.. I’m tempted to give Glossybox a go as I’ve heard good things about that one too.

If you’ve tried Glossybox or have a subscription with them I would love to know your thoughts on it!

  1. I’m glad you wrote about this as I was thinking about getting one. Probably won’t now. The ideas nice but I can imagine being disappointed too. Would be interesting to try other ones though maybe?💕 xx

    1. Don’t get me wrong I’m sure the previous boxes have been good, but going on my last 2 it’s definitely making me wonder if it’s worth it 😕 I don’t want to receive creams and moisturisers every month! I may give Glossybox a go though 💗 xo

      1. It’s hard to know what one to go for. I think there’s a couple of higher end ones that might be worth a go too. Will have to have a looksey! xx

  2. The only common thing we have between our boxes is the sponge haha! That’s amazing how much it can differ. I am not sure if I like my box at all (review to come very soon) but yours seems to be quite good! I had the LUC in my January box and I still reach for it sometimes! 🙂 xxx

    1. It’s interesting seeing what other people get isn’t it? Some of the products I got are good and I’ll use them, but again it’s creams and moisturisers I keep getting! I’ll look out for your review! xo

      1. I get creams quite a lot as well, but I think I prefer that to shampoos and conditioners – counts as 2 items and usually nothing special. And it is really interesting seeing what others get, that’s one of my favorite things to read haha! Is that sad a bit? Meh 😀

  3. I had Birchbox for a couple of months and found that the quality got worse each month so switched to Glossybox, both can have some ridiculous products – I didn’t even bothers writing about my last box! – but I definitely prefer Glossybox x

    1. I’m disappointed about the quality after only two months! I don’t want to be receiving moisturisers every month, just think the quality isn’t worth the price even though it’s only £10.00. I think I may give Glossybox a go 🙂 xo

      1. I think they just see moisturisers as an easy thing to throw in! I’ve only written about one Glossybox that I’ve received but that had some pretty good stuff in it and no moisturiser 🙂 x
