Makeup Monday: Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation Review

I’m back with another Maybelline foundation review today but I’m also reviewing the dream blender that goes with it. I haven’t heard much about this foundation, but when I popped in to my local Superdrug I saw they had 3 for 2 across all their makeup. I liked the look of this foundation and thought this would be the perfect time to try it out and with that I picked up the dream blender too!

I’m all for affordable makeup, I think they work just as well as the high end products for a fraction of the price! However, that being said, I do  love my MAC Studio Fix Fluid foundation but sometimes I don’t want to pay £20+ for a foundation!

I’ve been wearing this foundation for a while now and I love it. It comes in a tube so you squeeze out the product, but just a word of warning a little goes a long way as I found out! I had a lot of excess product on my face the first time I used this which is wasteful! It has a creamy, almost whipped like consistency to it which isn’t too wet or dry on the skin. It creates the perfect ‘matte’ look. It’s states on the front that it’s a soft matte, hydrating foundation which I can 100% agree on. My skin felt hydrated and fresh all day long, and not dried out like some matte foundations can do.. Nothing worse than when the product sits in the creases around your eyes – not a good look!

It really lives up to its name in the way that it is velvety on your skin and blends seamlessly. The coverage is good although I do have to build up the coverage more on my cheeks and nose but that doesn’t bother me. The only annoying thing about this foundation is that I wish it came in a bigger tube!! I love it that much and for only £7.99, I’ll definitely be repurchasing this!

As for the Dream Blender, I’m not too keen on this. Unlike the Real Techniques blender this one I find soaks up quite a bit of the foundation therefore not much gets blended into my skin. As I got this on the 3 for 2 offer and this was the item I got for free I’m not too annoyed that I haven’t got on with, but I’ll definitely be sticking to the Real Techniques blender in future!

Have you tried either one of these products?

  1. I thought about giving the blender a go but I wasn’t sure about! Think I’ll be giving it a miss after reading this review and others that aren’t too impressed. Foundation looks lush though x

    1. Yeah I was quite disappointed in the blender because it did look good, however it just soaked up all the foundation! Maybe best to use just for the nose and eye area! The foundation on the other hand is faultless! xo

  2. I have been trying to find a good foundation that is affordable and good quality and this one sounds amazing! How long does it last though? I love the review!

    1. I guess everyone has their preferences but and I like high street branded foundation, but I do however, want to try the Estee Lauder double wear foundation and the Charlotte Tilbury magic foundation! 🙂

    1. It’s really good, I’m definitely going to be repurchasing it! Erm I can’t really remember if I’m honest as I bought this a month ago, but I think the selection was good 😊
